New costume debut! The theme is my original design of the Absinthe Fairy - and it's been on my to make list since 2004.
I got a hold of some Absinthe from the Czech Republic back in 2004 and have really enjoyed this delicate yet powerful green drink since. The myth is that when one drinks enough Absinthe, not only will one be intoxicated, but hallucinations can occur as well - hence "chasing the green fairy".

I've always wanted to do a photoshoot with this theme so finally, now that I have the costume, this may happen soon.

The outfit itself was made from 90% of materials and supplies I had at home already - after all, I've been collecting materials since 2004 lol. All the jewels and beads are glass, I picked them up on a China trip a while ago. I made all the patterns for this costume and spent 3 days on creating the whole thing, only because I didn't have any more time allotted for personal costume making this month. Hence the outfit is a bit rushed and there are some things I'd like to change/add on for the future.

As for the pieces I did make - the wings were sized to fit inside a suitcase and I'm kinda glad they are small enough so I can maneuver easily at a busy convention environment. They are fabric over a wire frame, and embellished with sequins, crystals, glass beads and scattered LEDs that light up a nice Absinthe green. In these shots the lights blend in but I hope to post some darker shots soon where they show up better.
There are also LEDs in the cage for the skirt, and fiberoptic lights in my hairpiece.
The underbust corset/bra are made of layered fabrics that I texturized with various stitching techniques and they are also beaded and embellishd with feathers.
The collar piece and wristlets, and shoes all match as well with similar adornments.
The skirts are made of many layers of fabric pieces that I did a rolled hem on. My serger was getting super hot by the last piece lol.

Photos taken at Fanime 2011 by Paul Tien. Thank you for the quick turn around on the shots!

Too much boob-age IMHO, it distracts from great make up and a wonderful costume. As usual, you don't just wear an outfit. ^_^

Yeah I would love to see this against a darker bacground, I think all your details just kind of blend together since everything is so green. ^_^ Would really like to see closeups of the corset and hairpiece. :) You make me wish we had a costume ball and that I could hire you to make something for me. ^_^

Absinthe is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90-148 proof) beverage. It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from herbs, including the flowers and leaves of the herb Artemisia absinthium, commonly referred to as "grande wormwood", together with green anise and sweet fennel. Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but can also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the "green fairy" in French).

Although it is sometimes mistakenly called a liqueur, absinthe is not bottled with added sugar and is therefore classified as a spirit. Absinthe has a very high level of alcohol by volume but is normally diluted with water when consumed.

Absinthe originated in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It achieved great popularity as an alcoholic drink in late 19th- and early 20th-century France, particularly among Parisian artists and writers. Owing in part to its association with bohemian culture, consumption of absinthe was opposed by social conservatives and prohibitionists. Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Amedeo Modigliani, Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Aleister Crowley and Alfred Jarry were all known drinkers of absinthe.[6]

Absinthe has been portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug.[7] The chemical thujone, present in small quantities, was blamed for its alleged harmful effects. By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the United States and in most European countries including France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although absinthe was vilified, it has not been shown that it is any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Its psychoactive properties, apart from those of alcohol, have been much exaggerated.[7]

A revival of absinthe began in the 1990s, when countries in the European Union began to reauthorize its manufacture and sale. As of February 2008, nearly 200 brands of absinthe were being produced in a dozen countries, most notably in France, Switzerland, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

so say Wikipedia :D

I have to ask, out of all the outfits that have corsets, do they get uncomfortable after awhile or are you used to them keeping them on for many hours of the day? I do love the outfit, no doubt it took alot of time and patiance to do, makes me wish I can do this, but I love drawing more then making outfits xD I have to learn is all since I want to make a Hinata outfit so bad for cosplay lol

But I love the outfit, very beautiful and also love the make up too :3
I :worship: thee lol
